Furnace vent relocation.

I'm building a new dinette as some of you know.

The edge of my kitchen cabinet has a furnace vent. I decided to build the dinette right up to the kitchen cabinet.

To help the vent work, I used some flashing to angle the air to a new opening I created in front of the dinette bench seat.

Well, It was about 40 degrees out today while I continued my work on the dinette so I fired up the furnace. The flashing idea was a bad one.

First of all the flashing got too hot to touch. Second, the furnace kept shutting itself down obviously the overtemp was kicking in.

What is an easy way to relocate the vent? Expecially since my access is somewhat diminished now hind sight is 20/20
