Furnace replacement with fireplace?

In my "new to me" 65 Overlander 26 footer, I am needing to install an A/C and replace the rusted International furnace. With these two larger ticket items looming over me, I've resigned myself to just spending the cash and doing it right the first time.

What does that mean--well, let's add the fireplace! I've seen pics of Pearl54FC's installation of the Newport Propane fireplace--fabulous.

I was thinking about purchasing a Carrier Heat Pump (15,000 BTU's-I think-of heating and cooling) for the A/C installation and then installing the proprane fireplace as an additional heat source instead of a new furnace. I don't plan on doing much cold weather camping--so, i though that this might be a sufficient way to kill 3 birds with 2 stones ---the heat pump for cooling and some heating, and the fireplace for additional heating.

The only glitch that I can foresee is the lack of a heat source to "warm" the holding tanks to prevent possible freezing if the temps dip down at night. And, I'm not sure if the combines heat output of the fireplace anf the heat pump would be sufficient to heat the trailer. Also, does the fireplace have a fan to help circulate the heat?

Does any one have any thoughts about the feasibility of this plan?

I have the Newport fireplace in my Islander 36 sailboat on Lake Superior. I installed it 3 years ago and have had time to field test it on those cool mornings on the hook. My impression is that it will not be powerful enough to heat the inside of anything but a small Airstream. It is a well made good looking unit that adds a lot of bling to an interior and the flicker of the flames is great for the late night activities. Dale M

I'm planning on paring the fireplace with a 15,000 BTU heat pump as another heat source. I think the old furnace put out btwn 24,000 and 30,000 BTU's (very warm at 30,000), so-- I thought--if it's a 3 season trailer, the fireplace and the heat pump may be OK
