Furnace question '73 Overlander
Whenever we hook to electricity the furnace fan blows continuously, shouldn't it cycle on and off. Don't know if it matters but I don't currently have a thermostat control hooked to the furnace. Still fairly new with this so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Rodney

If you have the thermostat wires connected together the fan will run. If the pilot is lit, the burner will also come on. If it is the original furnace it may have serious problems with rusted combustion chamber and cross over pipe. I would be wise to have it completely checked out by someone who knows before using the furnace.

The furnace works with 12 volts, so I don't understand why it would only come on when power is connected. There are several things that would cause it to run continuously with 12 volts.
The shorted wires described above would be the first place to look, but there is also a sensor and relay that keep the fan running until the unit cools down. The cool down cycle runs independently from the thermostat.

Most people end up replacing the old furnaces with new NT30SP. A lot less hassles, safer and peace of mind. Most techs won't touch the old dinosaur. You can get new for $400 from Palomino RV.

Palomino is the cheapest around, but not much on customer service. You have to know exactly what to order. See this thread:

You may want to search this forum for further info on the furnace in your trailer. Various s/n Suburban furnaces were on a recall list for safety issues... mine was one of those. :-( Somewhere on this forum is a listing of the affected s/n units.
Oh - here's some info I just found: Suburban furnace

I believe the furnace in your 73 Sovereign is a NT30. Not on the recall list, but that does not mean safe. The main offender on the recall list was the NT22a

Thanks for all of the input....I'll check it out and may just go with the replacement....don't really use a lot of furnace here in Texas so may just disconnect it for a while to work on other stuff

TG...after a quick look the thermostat wires were connected and problem solved for now...but I think I will look at options for heat such as replacing furnace or electric heat...never been fond of sleeping with the propane heat anyways
