Furnace Q?

Did they use this furnace in '65? I had a small scare after lighting what's in mine. Counter to floor model -- about 18-24 inches wide. A full height grate with small squares in the grill. The pilot is bottom left about 6" off the floor.

I lit it, the pilot worked for a while, it ramped up, gave up a little bit of fumes or moisture/dirt burning off (not sure which), and then a loud POP and it went out. It was actually probably a little louder than a pop, but not quite a BANG!

The International Furnace was mounted underneath the galley cabinet.

From your description, it sounds like you have a small wall heater or a catalytic heater.

In either case, if it doesn't work "perfectly" get rid of it.

The gamble is too great.

Thanks for the response. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow. Getting rid of it is the hard part. Aren't I suppossed to do my best and KEEP the original furnace, or at least attempt to get it repaired/refurbished?

I do like that Dickinson Fireplace, but I can see where that belongs in the '53 FC . But the GT, well, there's no decent spot for a true vertical fireplace and if I can't go WOW then I'd rather have the original.

You have determined that the wall furnace is bad.

Parts, to my knowledge, are no longer available.

Safety is the key issue.

Explosions are never nice, especially in a confined area. LPG leaks can be and are deadly.

Finish the homework, bite the bullet, and replace it.
