I removed the furnace chimney from my '62 Bambi. It looks like they used something very similar to plumber's putty between the chimney and the side of the trailer as a seal.
Does anyone know what thias material is? Maybe I can use some fiberglass instead?
Most likely it's a caulking tape available at RV stores and home centers. It comes in a roll of tape, usually 1/2" or so in width. There are variations of sizes.
A great gasket material is shower pan liner - sold by the linear foot at home centers. You could trace your needed gasket and cut it from this material. It's been called an environmentalist's nightmare because it never seems to deteriorate - just the kind of material that's great for AS repair. It's also grey so the color doesn't stick out against the skin.
