Angry Electrical Furnace Problem

My water heater works great on LP - but for some reason the electrical element doesn't seem to be working. There is a hole with a "re-set" switch located in it that you're suppose to be able to set with a pencil eraser. I cannot detect any "click" when I push on the visible red "tag" to indicate whether or not a reset has ocurred. The switch at the heater is in the "on" position. Any suggestions?

THIS QUESTION WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FOR A "WATER HEATER PROBLEM" SOMEHOW I GOOFED UP AND TITLED IT "ELECTRICAL FURNACE PROBLEM." SEE THE SUBSEQUENT THREAD WITH THE CORRECT TITLE.

But, I will assume the "reset" button you reference is a thermal overload switch. Long ago, I ran into a situation where I could not get a motor restarted. Since it had a reset button similar to what you described, I figured the motor had overheated.

Letting the motor cool for a couple of hours, I pushed the button. Nothing happened. [snip boring detail]...I found I was not pushing the button hard enough. Once I finally did, it reset with a distinct "click".

My suggestion is "Push harder".
