Duo-Therm Penguin odor

I had a Penguin installed in my 78 Excella recently and from the time I started using the A/C I have been getting a strong sweet smell from it. I am sure this is not normal. I only get it with the A/C, and not with the fan only option.

Any thoughts?

I too have an odor from the air-conditioner in my 2003 CCD. Is there a remedy? Anyone.... anyone...

I had a musty odor in my trailer, that I thought was coming from the toilet. Using an ozone generator would freshen the trailer up for a few days, then it was back. Finally traced it out to the air conditioner. My brother in law and I removed the shroud and cover off of the evaporator coil and gave it a good cleaning with a scented cleaner. Man was it filthy, and stunk a lot worse, when it was "right in our faces".

One thing that I do, besides clean it (when the time comes) is that about 15 minutes before I need to turn the A/C off, I turn it to high fan (NO A/C- compressor on) to evap most of the moisture on the coils. In some cars they found that molds and fungus can grow there causing odors. So far it's served me well on the cars and seems like an easy crossover to the Airstream.
