Could it be that the supply voltage is too low? If so, I imagine your AC will shut down - but should restart later.

Probably shouldn't run it if supply voltage is dropping much below 110 - say to 105.

I have both a voltmeter and an alarm in our trailer to warn me of this condition.

Brian.

Do you or anyone at the rally have an amp clamp type meter? If so, you can remove the shroud and get an amp draw reading from the blue compressor wire to see if it is over-drawing it's rated amperage, which should be in the neighborhood of 12-13 amps at 95ºF. It will be listed on the data tag of the unit.

How old is the unit? It might be a compressor going bad, or perhaps even the relay board if you have an electronic thermostat. Also check the condenser and evaporator coils for excess dirt as dirty coils will cause the compressor to go into thermal overload and shut down.

A/C is 7 years old, came new on the unit. What's the life of a ac unit?

'Till it stops working?

Actually, I've seen 15 year old units working fine and new units fail in 2 weeks! Depends on a number of factors that really can't be quantified. Some will fail with a locked rotor on the compressor, others will develop a very slight leak in the copper tubing and slowly leak out the refrigerant, still others will lose a blower motor or circuit board (both of which are replaceable).

Thank your stars that your unit is still working and treat it well (keep the coils clean and don't feed it sub-par voltage) and it should continue to keep you cool.
