control panel installation for carrier a/c

For those who have installed a carrier a/c, what did you do about the flat-topped control/vent panel not fittting well against the curved ceiling? By the time I crank down the bolts joining the exterior A/C unit with the interior piece, the control panel/vent piece does not want to "mate up" easily. Did you dremel the outside edges of the vent piece? Or did you just screw it down tightly, causing it to distort?

Greg,

You can trim the lower unit to exactly match the curvature of your ceiling. If you can get the mounting screws started, put the lower unit in place and scribe the ceiling pattern onto the edge of the plastic. If not, have someone hold it in place and do the same.

Then trim with a Dremel or aviation snips and you should get a perfect fit to your ceiling. I've done several like this and they work great! Just be careful with cutting too deeply on the lower unit, or you might affect the operation of the mechanism.
