Coleman heater in '64 H-24 Avion

we have the original Coleman 3022 gas heater, perhaps some of the older airstreams used it as well ---- i tried it out
today, and it heats well, cycling with the thermostat, but i expected
a blower to come on/off -- there is a blower fan, with a dial, but
this is operated manually, and runs off of household current, so
would not be available boondocking -- does this mean that this heater
can be operated without the blower?, in which case it would work like
a vented propane heater, without drawing down our batteries?

thanks, bob
