I heard a rumor yesterday that Carrier will be exiting the RV air conditioner business about mid December (12/18/2009). While my source is generally reliable, I haven't found anything in a web search, and it's something I would think would be out there. Has anybody else heard this, and do you have further details? Speculation only feeds the rumor mill, but if you've seen anything like a notice from Carrier, it would be good to know. Many of us use Carrier as an aftermarket a/c for our coaches.
Anyone else build a low profile setup? If not I guess I need to reprioritize my purchases and figure out how to afford one of those before places run out of stock.

I am shopping for an airconditioner for my 27' 1973 Overlander. I have a 1976 Coleman on top (Stills blows some cool air). I want to upgrade with a 15,000 btu. I also want a heat strip. I was looking at Carrier but if they are going to discontinue RV airconditioners what happens in 6 to 7 years down the road if you need parts?
I really want to buy a good air conditioner that will last as long as my Coleman has. I am leaning toward the duo therm, but I just don't no.
Anyone know what the ideal size (BTU) would be for a 20ft '67 Globetrotter? Debating between 11K and 13.5K.. thoughts?
Unless you plan to stay in the shade all the time, 13.5K. If you get cold you can turn it off. If you get too hot with a little unit running full blast, you have no options.

Man this stinks! All the research I did showed they were the best units out there. I bought mine a year and a half ago and have been super pleased with it. Figures they'd stop making them....
