Question Is A/C original?

I have an A/C on my A/S that has quit working and leaked oil down the side of our trailer during the last road trip. PO told me it was an original A/S A/C. Our trailer is a 67 Caravel.

1. Was A/C available as an option?
2. If it was how do I identify if this is original?
3. If original is it worth repairing?

Removing A/C is not an option, it is not mounted in the rear vent opening like I have seen on other A/S units. This A/C is mounted ahead of the vent opening about in the center of the trailer. With the inside cover removed it looks like a professional installation, but I don't know and could use some advice. You can see the A/C unit in my posted photos. Thanks

Is A/C original?

Greetings Whistler!

If the Air Conditioner on your Caravel is an Armstrong Bay Breeze it is very likely to be either a facotry or Airstream dealer installed unit. Air Conditioning was an available option on Airstreams for a number of years when your Caravel was produced - - my '64 Overlander had an Armstrong Bay Breeze from the time it was new - - it was really nice with its wall-mounted thermostat control. When my Bay Breeze was deemed beyond practical repair, I went with my Airstream dealer recommended Coleman, but lost the wall-mounted thermostat control as well as the condesate drain pan.

If you are fortunate enough to find that you have an Armstrong Bay Breeze that is repairable, I think that you will find that it functions every bit as well as the modern units - - I actually think that mine cooled a bit more effectively than my new Coleman.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin
