I have a little delema...
I have a 65 Caravel and the PO had an enormous Coleman AC installed all the way to the back. I want to change it out with a Carrier Low Profile but the guy working on it called and said the Carrier lines up differently than the Carrier so it would even be further back - TOO far back and would hang off. My question is - would it be worth extending the 14x14 opening to allow the Carrier to sit further forward and fill in the difference with wood blocks (for example) or would there be issues with this?
Or should I ditch the AC altogether, install a Fantastic Fan and get a portable AC?
I'm in the hot, hot San Fernando Valley in CA but will mostly beach camp - no deserts for me

I would find a ac unit to fit into the 14x14 im sure you can find one if you do the research maybe Shop Camping World for RV Accessories, RV Parts, & other items for Outdoor Enthusiasts. or Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies! I would not do any cutting on the roof or your trailer will definately lose value a fantastic vent is nice but not when its real hot. The portable ac might be a option but where would you put it in a window? I would prefer having a ac unit on the roof mounted nothing to worrie about and looks alot better then having some eye sore hanging out the window I have a coleman in my 63 it fits perfect in the 14x14 but is not low profile. I would rather have a coleman to sit higher then the carrier hanging over the back and the wood thing does not sound good goodluck to ya maybe call airstream
No they don't sit in the window - they're on wheels and are usually 2 1/2 feet high or so and fairly thin. They're truly portable, not like an apartment window unit.
The other problem with a unit that's not low profile is that on a trailer as small as mine it's sort of an eyesore.
As the AC sits now it's right in front of the lav and the stove/oven.
you could always retro fit an under bunk unit but that can be pricey...my husband and I tried the portable unit and they dont work very well. (At least in our expierence.)

Your repair shop is correct.
The Carrier would set several inches rearward of the Coleman location.
Move the AC (low profile) to a new position forward and install a Fantastic in the old hole. The fan there works for whole interior draw and cooking area and bathroom area. The centrally located AC now effectively covers the entire interior equally. Besides....it all looks better.
No idea if this picture thing will work, but if it does, you have to agree I have you beat on the huge ugly almost falling off the back end a/c!
