Brisk II drain Pan?

Hi all. Shopping for a new ac unit for our 76 Argosy. I see that I can get a drain pan for a Dometic Penguin unit, and I can get the cup system for the original Brisk Air, but is there a drain pan available for the newer Brisk II? The new unit has a smaller footprint than the original Brisk Air. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. G

The Dometic drains are little cups that catch condensate and run it to the drain line. I have one on my Brisk Air II and it sort half ass works when the humidity is not real high. If you go that route you need to pull the shroud and insulate the cold lines and plug any holes in drain pan that lead to the drain cups. The idiots put a drain hole in a gutter that leads from one of the coolant lines that drips all the time and the water just drains out before it gets to the cup. As an engineer, I am ok with calling incompetent engineers idiots.

Don't get me started on why the thermostat starts cutting off at 75F.

Thanks for the reply. By drain pan I take it you mean the drain pan that is part of the unit, or is there a separate drain pan that goes down first? Are you happy with the unit or do you think a penguin is a better option. I like the Brisk Air II because it has the option of an electric heater not a heat pump. Any thoughts?

Yes you can use the Dometic drain cups with all the Dometic AC models.

The Dometic drain cup kit is PN 3107688.016

Dometic states that the Commercial Grade must have air ride suspension.

Thank You. So the drain cups connect to the existing in the wall drain line I assume. I didn't see the air ride requirement for the commercial units. I thought they would be more rugged than the regular units.

The AC works ok but the thermostat is not great. It starts cutting out at about 75 degrees on the lowest setting. The heater strip works but it is off or on. The thermostat does not control it. Overall, I think I would have gone another route. I was trying to find something that would catch the condensate water and this was just about the only brand that did at the time which was a couple of years ago. Airstream use to make a generic pan that went under the unit but I don't think that is made anymore. The heater strip keeps the trailer warm down into the 30's. If you don't have a thermostat on it, it will drive you out of there at warmer temperatures. I ended up putting a base board heater thermostat on mine to control the heater temperature.

I would consider another brand than Dometic. I feel like they cut multiple corners.

Thanks Perry. I don't know of another brand that affords a drain line and I don't want the condensate running down the side of the trailer. After a while it etches the new paint job. G

Yes, that is how they work. They only collect the condensate from the evap coil collection pan. Any other condensate from the AC that forms, like the suction line near the compressor, will give you some drips on the roof in humid conditions.

The "must have air ride" statement is on the eDometic website info page about the Commercial AC. You may want to call Dometic on this, as it could be in error. The rest of the information talks about how rugged it is.

The Coleman RVProducts Mach 8 can be installed with a condensate pump to take care of the drip on the roof issue. See posts by HiHoAgRV on this AC.

Have you removed the Armstrong already?

Why don't you fix it? It is a much better quality AC than any new China made Dometic or Coleman.
