Black Foam and/or Mold

Hey folks! I got a question for ya. When I turn on my AC after the 'stream has been sitting, blackish chunks fly out of the vents. They range in size from "dime" size all the way down to "crumb" size. Also, they seem to deteriorate at the slightest touch. What could this be?

Thanks.

It`s probably your filter falling apart ,drop your cover & check your filter. Dave

Easy, I don't think it's the filter. I replaced it not too long ago with a white one. Are there any gaskets or anything in there?

If it's not the filter crumbling away, it's probably a foam rubber gasket in the air/blower chamber in the unit it self that's become hardened and crumbly with age, and is just flaking away and being blown into the interior when you fire up the fan. My old vent seals were like that!

you could try putting a sample in a dish of water and see if it grows!
