Atwood hydro flame 8500-IV Furnace

We are currently on the road in our 2006 30 ft. Classic. It is equipped with an Atwood hydro flame 8500-IV series furnace (propane), a 13,500 BTU Duo-therm Penguin heat pump, and a Duo-therm Comfort Control thermostat.

Several days back, while in Ogden, Utah, we were running the air conditioner and the blower for the propane furnace cycled on when the thermostat was set to "cool". The furnace did not ignite, the blower (fan) just started and stopped several times.

Does anyone have an idea as to what might cause this to happen?

You have a 'confused' (yes, it's really a technical term) thermostat. You need to do a re-set.

If you can't find the procedure, PM me and I'll give you the procedure.

Thanks for the timely reply. After making the original post, I thought about what was common to the furnace and the heat pump and came up with the thermostat.

From one of your original posts, I had printed and filed the re-set procedure for the CCC. I dug it out and performed a re-set on the thermostat. So far, the problem has not resurfaced.

Is there anything in particular that tends to happen to "confuse" the thermostat and create such problems as the one that I encountered?

Nope! Probably nothing you did. They can often have a mind of their own.

Hi Lew,
We have an Atwood Hydroflame manual Thermostat that won't turn on. I read your response post from 2014 regarding another member's similar problem. Unfortunately, when our 16' Bambi was vandalized they stole the Atwood manual. I think all we need to do is a re-set but I'm not sure how. Any advice would be great! Thank you - Kim
