Armstrong ac shroud

I need to service my Armstrong ac, but afraid old shroud will fall to pieces upon removal. Need to source a new one or used in good condition, or another brand that will fit.

Andy at Inland RV has fiberglass reproductions. I was lucky enough to snag one on a drive to LA; his shipping charges are high.

I have wanted to replace mine for years and finally made the choice to order one from Andy....did it on Friday and looking forward to it arriving.

I am thinking of taking it to an auto paint shop and having it painted silver to match the Airstream

Armstrong ac shroud

They paint up really well. All I did was sand its very generous gelcoat before applying red urethane. Click image for larger version

Seems like it was in the low 200's. But remember, that was with me picking it up; Inland's shipping costs are high.

It was painted over two years ago but it is parked indoors when not being used.

However, I know from experience that the paint I used, will hold up very well for at least six years in the desert sun.

If memory serves it is big enough that it must ship via freight.

The piece was about $250, and shipping was near $200.

It is a very nice piece, well laid fiberglass with a very nice and generous gelcoat.

It sanded out so nice that I did not use any primer, but painted near flawless.

It is many times better that the factory shroud that probably lasted forty years.

Sorry to go on and on, but in my experience fiberglass repops are usually not so great, but these are a pleasant exception.

The paint is DuPont Industrial Imron 3500 HG. It is top notch stuff, I love the stuff.

Everything in this link is painted with it.

http://s245.photobucket.com/user/JMD...hop/Imron%2035

It is WAY cheaper than car paint but it lasts and lays down as good or better.

It will brush or spray.

Ooooof!!! The paint plus activator is $55 in the smallest quantity I can get. That's for a quart of white and a pint of activator.

I get it for about $130 a gallon including the activator, but smaller quantities are more expensive, by a lot...

The folks at the paint counter have LOTS of pricing flexibility at the point of sale.

Going in person while inquiring about pricing helps to get things more affordable.

Another thing about this stuff is amazing coverage, the red on the red trailer in the above link is covered with about two gallons. It would take twice that to cover with enamel.

A quart will go a long way.
