Anyone done this?

Our rear AC can only be operated by the gen set. Could the panel be modified so as to run the rear when plugged in and a switch to activate the gen set circuit when dry camping? Should we install another 30 amp circuit or have the electricians wire the whole panel to 50 amps? 50 amp hook-ups are still few and far between (and expensive). Any ideas? Thanks.

I like your switched - 50 amp idea. More power available the better.
I like max supply and moderate usage.
One person's opinion...........

how's it hooked up now?

Mike, do you plug the gen into a receptacle in the rig when you want gen power? or do you have a transfer switch? What you have now, is 120VAC 30A single phase. If you change to a 50 amp service, that will be 240VAC single phase, with 2 poles of 50 amp power. More power, obviously, but more $, too. Panel, shore line wiring, shore line recep, etc all have to be changed out. If you have transfer switch, then It, too is probably rated at 120VAC 30 amp, which means it would be changed out, too. Not the easiest thing on your wallet.
Now, all ya gotta do to power the rear AirConditioner is get a dedicated 120VAC 20amp feed to it. There are many ways to do that. All I need to know is how the rear air conditioner is wired now-you can provide a shore line from the 120VAC 20amp circuit on the rv camp pedastle, or with a correctly wired adapter, you can power it from virtually any source available. PM me for more...

Thanks, Bill. Will continue to research ; lack of the rear AC makes the wife rather WARM, shall we say. We do have a transfer switch, though not sure (or where) it is.
