I have a Dometic Duo Therm unit, which has always worked flawlessly.

I woke about 3am to sounds from the unit but no fan blowing. The AC was on max cold, low fan.

The fan would not work on low, med or high, nor would it work on fan only.

Off for about 3 hours, it is working fine this morning.

Any suggestions, guys, would be greatly appreciated.

Maggie

Air Conditioner Went From Big Blast to Small Blow

Maggie, sounds like your coils froze up. Max cooling, low fan can do it sometimes. Especially in high humidity locales.
When you switched to fan only, did you at least hear the hum of the motor? If you were frozen up' you still should have heard the hum of the fan when you went to fan only mode.

Thanks, Jack.....and the coils freezing up would affect even the fan on...just, fan? Yes, I did hear a bit of a hum, just nothing happening

That's what threw me and gave a long moment of "uh-ohhhh"

Thinking I would be looking for a repair person, and without AC until it could be fixed. In Kansas, in July.

I thought something might have frozen up, but thought that would have to do with the AC, only, not the fan, only.

I could feel a wisp of cold air coming out of the unit, when the fan wasn't blowing.

That's why I asked the question if you heard the hum of the motor when you chose fan only mode. If you did, that would reinforce that the coils were frozen over, which blocks the airflow. If you heard nothing when you went to fan mode then I'd lean to an electrical issue which caused the fan to shut down.

Okay, Jack.....frozen coils blocking airflow..

Got it, and thank you.

I will not leave it on max cool, low fan at any time.

Hugs to you and Patti.

Yep, if you have the ability to adjust temperature through a wall unit or a dial or the air conditioner, use that if you can. Low fan speed is fine as long as the compressor is cycling, but running max cool usually means the compressor is running continuously. Water will build in the coils, but the low fan doesn't allow enough air volume to keep that moisture from freezing.

This unit does not have a thermostat, just a dial.

The AC just about freezes me out, and always has, so low is the norm 99% of the time.

I think I usually dial it back from max cool at night, tho, which I apparently did not do last night.

I have learned something, and hope others have, too.

Thanks!
