Advent Air Conditioners...

Shopping for a new A/C and a local dealer is pitching an Advent, says they are using or have bought rights to the use what was the Carrier rooftop units...Does anyone know about these units or have any experience with them ?

I've always tried to let a new product or vendor establish a track record of performance or reliability before I put my $$ with them.

Kevin,

Your dealer has given you incorrect information. Advent is manufactured by a very large CHINESE firm that also makes Voyager and Jensen brand electronics. THEY ARE NOTHING LIKE A CARRIER, and from what I have been told, they bear a striking resemblance to a Dometic Brisk Air unit right down to the shape and size of the shroud. There are currently no low profile units being produced.

For what it's worth, I would stick with the known, proven RV air conditioner manufacturers like RVP (Coleman) and Dometic. Both companies manufacture their units in the USA!

THE ONLY WAY TO REDUCE THE TRADE DEFICIT WITH CHINA IS TO STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS AND RETURN OUR MANUFACTURING BASE BACK HERE!!!!!

I was reading that advents were quieter and had starter capacitors to allow starting on a generator. I hate the noise, and would like to run it odd my Honda 2200i. Not sure whether I should buy the $300 soft starter for my dometic, or spring for a newer, quieter brand with soft start built in. Thoughts?

Well, you are posting to a thread that is 9 years old so I imagine a lot has changed.

Personally, I would stick with Dometic simply to avoid replacing the thermostat and reinventing the drainage system.

Good plan! There are several very quiet A/C units now in production. Advanced RV is selling one, but they are around $2000!! Yikes!!!

I guess it depends on just how quiet you really want that A/C unit to be.
