AC wired with 2 spare wires?

I have a 64 Overlander International - Ohio. No factory installed AC. Cut through the virgin ceiling last night, and found 2 wires supplied by the factory. Both were silver fabric romex, 12/2 but one had green writing on it, and the other had red. This is the stamped writing like you would see on a normal romex sheath. Which one should I use, and why were there 2? My only guess would be if someone wanted to put a 12 volt fan there instead of a 110 AC, but I don't know. I may use the other as a spare thermostat wire, but probably wont. Just curious as to anyone's idea why both were there?

Thanks,

That's true, I just wish I understood why. Maybe I'll call Airstream.

If its 12/2 wire, one if for the hot (black in romex), the other is for the neutral (white in romex). When you put in a circuit breaker for that A/C circuit, the hot wire is the one coming of the breaker. The neutral is the one tied to the bus bar with all the other white wires.

For what it's worth my '67 used the same Romex style wiring for both 110AC and 12VDC.
Your assumption on 12 VDC for the fan is probably correct.
I'd strip back the wires a bit, grab a Volt/Ohm meter and check if you've got juice and what kind.
You might find both are dead. With luck you'll find the A/C loose wire in the breaker box.

Good luck,
Tom
