AC/HP is very loud.

Just wondering if others have a noisy AC unit. Our AC and Heat Pump are very noisy when running compared to other units of the same size. Any Ideas what might cause this? Do I need to take it back to the dealer and if so what do I say might be the cause?
Thanks

I don't know how to compare it to other units but we find our AC/HP pretty darn loud. In hot weather we're happy to listen to the A/C and it soon fades into the background. In cold weather when at a full hook up site we don't use the HP we use a little portable convection heater that is just about silent and probably does a better job of heating the area we want anyway.

One other reason to use a portable heater is to prolong the life of the ceiling unit. I can buy a whole bunch of $39 heaters for the price of a new HP.

I got a 13.5 Dometic Penguin, which is a low profile unit. I heard after the fact it is noisier than than the regular configuration which sits higher on the roof.

I'll use the AC when necessary. At night I'll turn the thermostat to a setting both tolerable and warm enough that it's not running all the time.

Heat strip or heat pump -- I don't use my heat strip based on the noise alone. Propane is pretty cheap by comparison. I can't justify a space heater because of traveling with 2 dogs and the extras necessary to deal with them.
