Actually, that foam gasket found on the bottom of all roof airs should be tightened to a COMPRESSION of 50-60%, according to the Dometic spec. It's function is to seal the unit to the roof and thus not allow water to penetrate it. It's original intended purpose was not as a shock absorber, but a water tight seal.

Free A/C salvage

My old dometic is up for grabs as salvage. the shroud and all parts except for the compressor are still in good condition. if anyone wants to pick it up, I live in Ellijay Ga. and there will be no shipping. Its not much to work with but its Free!
