If you have a Dometic Comfort Control thermostat ( CCC-1) you can not simply place a switch into the circuit to activate the unit. It is more than likely a heat pump, and the CCC-1 uses a 4 wire data cable with 12VDC coming into it on 2 wires and a digital signal to the control board going from the t/stat to the control board.
A simple test is to connect a new t/stat. You also might have. Bad data cable, bad union where the cable connects to the A/C control board, or a defective control board.
