A/C Upgrade

It is likely that I will have to replace the 13,500 btu Dometic heat pump in our 2005 Classic.
How difficult is it to upgarde to the 15,000 btu heat pump? The specs on the two units don't seem to be all that much different (weight, power usage, etc.)
If I have to replace the current unit, I'd like to replace it with the larger capacity model.
Appreciate any input.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago with a Carrier 15,000 Btu heat pump, see http://www.airforums.com/forums/f427...ead-40795.html. Simple—off with one and on with the other. The worst part was scraping the 25 year old sealant off the top.

My Excella used an air conditioner with all the controls built into the system so wiring was just connecting the 120 VAC. You probably have thermostat wiring to contend with, but no matter what you buy you will have to do that.

I am pleased with the upgrade and think you will be too in Biloxi. In full sun it still gets warm inside, but mine does not have a white roof. Another thing on the list.

Since Carrier is exiting the RV business, you will probably want to go to a different brand. Too bad, mine is fine.

I think you'll find that the Dometic 13,500 and 15,000 BTU/h units are remarkably similar. I'm not sure what they change, maybe a fan capacitor or something.

I'm betting it will be real simple if you use the Dometic 15,000. If you are lucky it may be as simple as dropping the screws from the inside duct, removing 4 really long bolts, pulling loose 1 connector and sliding the unit off the plastic drain pan.

I just added a second AC to my 34' and it was pretty straight forward.

BTW, I noticed that ya'll are 4 degrees cooler than us...must be the oil evaporating and cooling things down...
