A/C Unit from the Mothership...

I've been replacing parts of my old original Summer Air for awhile now....and while it keeps on chugging and gets really cold...it's getting harder and harder for me to repair with my limited electrical knowledge....now it has a relay or something gone bad because when I turn on breaker to the unit you can hear something "humming" that never hummed before....

So I figure "Hey...I'm close Jackson Center..... I may just check into having a new updated unit installed....

Is this the best route to go? having Airstream do it?

anyone here every had Jackson Center install one?

if so how long did it take?

and what did it cost?

Thanks so much for any info....

it's getting cold here...but I plan to roll on down south soon where A/C will be needed....

I replaced the AC on my 75 Trade Wind a couple of years ago. The new unit (Carrier 13.5K with heat strip) cost around $700, but they do not make them any more.

The install was not easy as the old unit is attached with around 40 screws into the skin and a lot of sealant. To install the new unit the hole has to be reinforced with framing around the edges of the hole to support the new unit.

It took me (and several friends) more then 4 hours to complete the swap out.

With a little planning this is a DIY project. I remember meeting you at the Dogwoods rally at ft. boonesboro - I would say that your quite capable of this job.
I replaced the one on my other trailer a few years ago. Took a couple of hours.
Search the forum for other ac threads for hints on how to do this.

Yes....before the heart attack I had last month I would have done this myself...

but after the heart attack... I just don't have the energy or strength...

I figured getting the Factory to replace it was a safe bet as I hope they know what to do to install it correctly..

the cost is high...but it is a pretty rough job getting a old heavy unit off the roof...

I really dont have another option....
