A/C troubles during a triple digit heat wave.

I’m having A/C troubles during a triple digit heat wave. I have a 15,000 btu main unit Duo-Therm Penguin and a 13,500 Penguin in the rear. I adjusted the temperature (to a warmer setting) on the big unit and about two minutes later the unit quit running and has since refused to run the compressor. I had a service man look at it yesterday and it isn’t getting power to the capacitor. He thinks it is probably a problem with the circuit board. He is trying to research it on-line to confirm. The fan settings work but when I set it to cool and then flip the “On” switch it runs the fan about 20 seconds, then shuts of everything. Oh, yes, the indicator for the heat-strip is lighted at all times, even when the control is at A/C stage. The tech and I assume this could be evidence of a board problem. Any of you have experience with this?

The rear unit works very well, EXCEPT, the installer (either at the factory or elsewhere) messed up the condensate collection pan and it has leaked most of the time I’ve had it. I repaired it several years ago and we’ve had no issues for the four years since. However, we’ve not used it much and when we have it has been in the desert low humidity conditions. We now have the trailer parked at the confluence of the Snake and Payette rivers in irrigated agriculture surroundings so there is more humidity. We had a bad day yesterday with water coming out of the A/C. We did have the mattress protected but finally shut the thing down to protect the bed. Several years ago when I ordered a new pan for it and the Airstream dealer was to replace it, I was told that since the A/C had been set in Vulcum it could not be removed without destroying the A/C. What say you folks? Does this sound right to you? I hate to have something that is a continual concern.
