A/C - Roof seal ?

I picked up a 2003 22’ International CCD last year (my first rv). I’ve been working on little things here and there. Mostly,to help me get to know the trailer better /etc.. I’m up on the roof now, sealing around the vents/etc.. I’m not sure what to make of the AC unit. What I mean is, whatever was done to seal the space between the unit and the roof !! Is that normal ? It almost looks like the PO used Henry’s roofing tar !!? I haven’t noticed any leaking inside ( under AC ). Wondering why that is like that. The whole thing looks cheesy. I think it works. Don’t ask me why I don’t know,it’s a long story. But,thanks for any ideas why it’s possibly like that. Maybe I should consider having it looked at !! Thanks

The shroud (the plastic AC cover) originally had only four screw holes. Two in the front and two near the rear on each side. Someone drilled in a couple extra and tried to reinforce the plastic with (I'm guessing) fiberglass tape. Looks like you need a new shroud.

Another issue is that AC unit is setting in a pan, which is an Airstream specific item. That pan is setting on top of big gobs of caulking, probably what you are seeing. That pan on your trailer is 16+ years old, probably cracked and leaking. There is a better way. People are converting the drain pan system to drain cups. Use the forum search to find several threads.

Hi

As mentioned above, no it's not normal.

I would check for other roof / mount issues. The PO may have run into something .....

kindergarten... looks like a problem with the edging of the cover convinced the repair guy to strengthen the thin plastic with fiberglass, but did not do a neat job... Some actually blow off..

Then look at the way the machine mounts to the roof... all the caulk..?? no. never.

will never know until all that is cleaned up...
