Update: Well, it seems the reports of the untimely demise of my Dometic AC unit were greatly exaggerated.

The folks at Colonial RV Service sent me a reset procedure for the thermostat. And guess what? It is now working. It took three tries, but I finally got it to work through the night. I'll test it one more night before I declare victory, but it's blowing ice cold air.

Yay! I woke up the morning and the AS is sweating like a pig - condensation. Ahhh, the joys of RVing...

Reset procedure? Any chance of a summary of what this is?

A/C not cooling as I think it should

1. Go to each zone and select mode until it says “OFF”
2. Now turn the thermostat Off
3. Hold Mode and Zone at the same time
4. You should see the screen say “Init"
5. Release the buttons and turn the thermostat on
6. Turn on the AC that is having the issue and make sure the fan is on Auto
7. If the AC blows cold, then everything is okay but if not there may be an issue with the control board or the AC unit itself.

I have to wonder why Airstream doesn't just use a separate and simple thermostat in each zone?

It isn't like it is a long walk between zones....

I called JC technical support and they told me to try unplugging the telephone cord connection on the back of the thermostat to do a restart, and then plug it back in. Didn't work for mine. I just tried F C streamers fix, ( I was hoping )and that didn't work either, for mine. Congratulations on fixing yours, wish mine was that simple, it's hot out here!

Thanks for the summary FCStreamer, and glad you are chillin' !

The instruction books included with each trailer's owner's manual and paperwork should have the reset procedures, no? I seem to recall a separate booklet for our thermostat and will check tomorrow. One zone only here though.

PS edit -- P. 2 of this manual seems to have the reset process for the Dometic multi-zone stat:

http://www.dometic.com/QBankFiles3/E...nual_17586.pdf

Perhaps there is nothing like this in the trailer's paperwork attaché case?

I wouldn't have though that resetting the thermostat would have fixed an AC that was not cooling. The perspective of a pro is always welcome.

When my phone or computer is not acting right, I automatically do a hard re-boot. Ditto for cable boxes/modems and WIFI routers. Unplug 'em and see if they re-boot correctly.

The stat is just another little computer, which controls everything in its "network."

Hey, at the risk of being morbid all of a sudden -- is death just another hard re-boot?

Have a good weekend!

PS -- OT -- Do all the iPhone users know how to do a hard re-boot? Apple never advertised it but it can fix a lot of hidden problems IMO. Clean the Safari cache and history (in Settings), then hold the Home button and the On/Off button down simultaneously for 10-20 seconds until you see a white apple come up on the screen. Let go of both buttons, and your phone will be faster and happier . . .

If you have 'hard' issues in your A/C unit, resetting the CCC-II will do nothing to solve the problem.

A refrigerant leak, burnt start capacitor it makes-functioning compressor or relay board require expert diagnostics and usually parts replacement.

Of course, it never hurts to try the simplest remedy first. :-))

2018 27’ FLYING CLOUD - out the first time this year with temps over 90 degrees. Today the temperature is 96. Air conditioner been running all night and day and unable to cool the unit. Is this normal? Am I asking too much for the unit to cool the RV in 96 degree weather? I assume it is still under warranty?

Typically in 100+F weather we are lucky to maintain 85F in our 2017 25FB equipped with a single AC.

Hi

Assuming it's "air conditioner" and not "air conditioners" ( = you have one, not two in a 27') then yes this is normal. If it's 96 degrees out and the humidity is also a bit high, the AC will run forever and ever to get you to 70 or 75 degrees inside the trailer.

Things you can do to help:

1) Put out all the awnings
2) Close all the shades ( = use the night shades)
3) Block off the sun coming in through the Fantastic fan vents.
4) Park under some big shady trees
5) Go somewhere else
6) Get a couple very normal plug in fans to move the air.

One interesting thing about an AS: They ventilate very well. Open all the windows and let the breeze through. We've been here all afternoon in 85 degree temperatures and it's very comfortable with no A/C. It's *way* nicer than what a single A/C does inside when it's 95 to 100 out.

Ac

I have new Domitic 15000 BTU in my 28ft Squarestream and it will only hold 12 - 15 degrees below outside air temp at 100 F. Air temp out vent around 50F.
It is hard to get much more with the windows and insulation that they have if you are in direct sun.

Yes allowing the breeze through is why this is the first time this year to experience. As the temp went down it finally began to cool. By night it was flat out cold.

Guess you can only use the Airstream below 90 degrees.

there's a penalty for aluminum inner and outer walls....

A shady spot will work wonders if you can find one.
