A/C installation

After talking to Andy @ Inland RV and getting the correct location for the A/C unit for our 65 Caravel, I opened up the ceiling and the wiring was right where he said it would be. Now I have the longitudinal stringers to install and the cross rib section etc.for the 14in. square hole. Also some wiring will have to be rerouted to clear the new stringers.

What brand AC unit will you be using? Do you need a drain line and if so how will you run it? Im interested in seeing what you do. I will be doing this myself someday

No need to reroute the wiring.

Drill a hole in the stringer, install a grommet, feed the wire thru the grommet, and it's done.

I am wondering if a drain line is needed. Some day I want to add an AC unit ( possibly) to a trailer I will soon be working on. If the inside skins come off in the rebuild I would just add a drain line in case I ever decide to add an AC

You are right Andy. Except the water pump wire that goes to the switch next to the kitchen window did not have enough slack in it to move it from the center of the 14X14 hole. I had to disconnect it from the switch and pull a cord back out and route it around the opening and back to the switch. I do not plan on putting in a drain line. The A/c that I put on my other trailer does not make enough condensate to run down the trailer side

no drain line

Big mistake. If you come to a hot humid area...or sell it to someone there....You will have a mess. Ruins a polish job too. It only takes a second to put in a drain line...even if you don't use it yourself...now.

I agree with Melody- if you ever head south (like TN) condensate will pour out. I would just do it while the skins are off.

Yep, it sure did a job on mine. I have the new AC in the Trade Wind, I haven't put in the drain for mine yet but because the inner skins are in I don't have the ability to run the drain between the skins. So, I will be doing the tube through the cabinet and down through the wheel well trick. Put one in now while you have the chance.

We all make mistakes with some of our decisions in life.

If you don't put a drain line in, which is easy and simple to do, you will "WIN" a "BLUE RIBBON" for that mistake, guaranteed.

It doesn't matter what the other AC does, or doesn't do.

And if you ever went south, you will wish you never heard of the words "drain line".

Andy

That's correct.

But, I have no idea what King O D road may install.

Probably not a Carrier, since they quit making them.

Thanks everyone for your input. I definitely do not want Andy's blue ribbon award. Installed the stringers and cross brace today. Tomorrow I will pull a couple of interior panels since the ceiling is all that is loose now and install a drain line. What do they normally use and what size of tube. I would like to go south someday. We usually go to Canada and the northwest.

Roger.

3/8 inch ID clear soft plastic tubing, for an AC drain line, works great.
