hmm just read this in a installation manual:
"
8. If the Carry-On has been stored in any position other than
upright within 10 degrees of level, then, after installing, wait
30 minutes to allow compressor oil to settle to the bottom of
the compressor. Otherwise permanent damage may occur,
voiding the warranty."

and this later on
"Figures 3a & 3b. These figures show
proper and improper positioning and
leveling of the Carry-On unit in the
boat hatch. It is very important that
the Carry-On be level. "

and now this:
"Under no
circumstances should the Carry-On be operated more than
10 degrees off level, since this could cause loss of proper
lubrication to internal parts and void the warranty"

now i am not saying for a moment that your set up is not working, this is jut wht hte manual says and they may be ubber cautious. but it makes me wonder if you are dooming your unit to a very short life.

it also make me wonder if it can be opened up and, that part that is being lubed, be rotated so that it itself is upright again?

I just checked the LG Canada site for you. It plainly says "115 v 60 cycles". Maybe you were on a European LG site?

Forget about Terry's Craigslist find. If he hasn't burned out the compressor yet he will soon. You can't run a compressor upside down or sideways. If you do the oil will drain out and ruin the compressor.

yes i see that on the canada sight, too, but not in the US site that i could see, the us site is more limited all around.

a agree that running something on its side is probably a bad idea, but lets be a bit more polite around here k? Terry is just sharing, same as the rest of us.

so i have decided that i need something for right now and it is not goin to be what i am going to use in the long run, since i do not have the money or time to do it right and just want to not blow too much money in the mean tim
or sweat to death in the desert in the next few weeks

i am leaning towards getting a portable a/c model that i can later use in my shop.

So the question is within comparable BTU ratings , is there a performance diferance between portable in room models and window or thru wall models of residential A/C's???

and what is the big difference is a one hose vs a 2 hose portable a/c ? im going to dive into the internet at large and do myself some more edumacation!

I have experience with a portable AC unit in my house. I bought it to cool a hot upstairs south facing bedroom so I don't have to use the central AC as often.

Anyway the 2 hose system is more efficient. The one hose system draws room air for cooling the condenser and discharges the air outside. That causes a vacuum in the room which needs to be replaced with hot outside air. The two hose system draws outside air to cool the condenser thru one hose, and then the heated air is discharged through the second hose.

Even with the two hoses-and I thoroughly insulated the hot air discharge hose w/ duct insulation + sealed the window kit thoroughly- the unit performs well but not IMO up to its spec of 14000 btu. I estimate it performs more like 10000-12000 btu, but don't have a direct comparison so take this with a grain of salt. Anyway for cooling a 270 sq. ft bedroom ( 12 ft. cathedral ceiling) the Soleus LX140 does a good job.

One other issue with the portable AC units is the cooled air is discharged too low in the room. I have solved that problem by aiming a small floor fan at the ceiling.
