A/C Gasket install: To seal or not to seal?

Finally got my new Atwood AC in the mail the other day. After going through all the parts I am a bit perplexed regarding the foam seal. The instructions say to stick it to the roof and not the unit when installing (one side is a bit sticky). It doesn't say anything regarding adding extra sealant. Planning on sticking the gasket to the unit and laying down a thick bead of Vulkem on the AS skin around the hole.

What is everyone's opinion on this matter? I have read threads that say you don't need anything else and others that have used putty tape. If I use something like Vulkem or Tempro with this eat into the foam gasket? I like things easy but will put in the work to make things right.

I installed a Penguin on my trailer. It already had the foam gasket securely glued to the bottom of the AC right out of the box. The directions did not specify that any sealant/adhesive should be used on the top of the trailer, so I attached it dry. It has been there for about a year now, through some heavy storms and hasn't leaked.

good luck!
