Question A/C Compressor won't start...

Hey, this past week-end my a/c (Duo-Therm Penguin) in my '07 Safari stopped cooling. When the compressor tries to kick in, it makes a really low frequency rumbling sound for about 5 seconds, followed by a strange smell (kinda like burnt gunpowder), and then the compressor stops. Of course no cold air.

Took it to the dealer today, but just wondering if anyone has seen this problem before. FYI, it's still under A/S warranty.
