73 Safari AC Replacement Question

Anyone have any recommendations on replacing the AC unit in a 73 Safari? The original has about had it now and I need a new one. I want to make sure I can still utilize a wall mounted thermostat as well as one that can connect to the existing drip pan lines.... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

You can install a Carrier "low profile" 15,000 btu AC.

It has a built in drain pan, and the thermostat is on the bottom of the shroud.

The wall thermostat is no longer needed.

It also has an "air shower" outlet that you can use as you wish, as well as oscillating louvers that provide great circulation.

Do I need 15,000 BTU or would the 13,500 BTU's be good enough for a 23 Foot Safari?

Install the 15,000 btu unit.

It's just a few more dollars, but if you go south like to Georgia or Florida, you will wish you had even more than the 15,000 btu.

If and when you might sell the trailer, the larger AC is a good selling point.

"Sears-rated" BTUs?

Maybe they don't rate BTUs the way they used to, but the 11,000 BTU Armstrong in my 26' Airstream keeps the place cool in high-ninety, Florida temperatures.

I'm glad I don't have more BTUs because, when the outside temperature is only in the high seventies, the AC cycles a lot making the interior go from one extreme to the other. This is particularly noticable at night after the bedcovers are adjusted.

I advise caution. Yes, more BTUs might be appreciated in inordinately high temps, but for general cooling you might tire of the interior cycling between "a bit warm" and "put a coat on".

Great input...thanks Tom. I have heard the the original Armstrongs are much better units than what is avaialble today so that might be the reason for the higher BTU recommendation.
