71 Sovereign Armstrong TR21-12 help

Hello all, I'm Greg, I live in North Sioux City, SD. I bought a 71 Sovereign last fall. It has an Armstrong TR21-12 ac unit. The fan works and the compressor turns on, but it does not blow cold. I've called a few AC places and one RV repair place. No one will work on it. The RV place said to replace it because it will just leak out again. He didn't think it had charging ports?
From what I've read in these forums it sounds like this unit is worth keeping. Does anyone know anybody in the Sioux City, Iowa area that would work on this thing? I don't know anything about the trailer's history other than the PO bought it six years ago, used it once, and it had been sitting ever since. I would guess it still has R22? The ac unit does not have a shroud. I've been holding off buying one until I find out whether it can be fixed.
Thanks for any help!

In home units the rule of thumb is 15 years. I would think it is time to replace it.

You could remove it and bench tested it pretty easily. I had one that the condenser was plugged and wouldn't let the air flow over it. It could be something simple like that.

I am not an Armstrong or AC guy but I have heard that unlike new ACs there are charging ports. The Armstrong ran on Freon which I think is still available but is prohibitively expensive or black market. It is destructive to the ozone layer. Not sure if the Armstrong will run on a Freon replacement. It is not surprising you can't find anyone to work on it. Probably they are all retired, dead, or just don't know how.

I have an Armstrong from a 72 available but don't know if it works.

Interested in used unit for parts. I’m stubborn and want to use the vintage unit

TR21-12 Recharge thread?

I’m looking for a recharge thread for the TR21-12. It appears my unit works but doesn’t make cold air.
