68 Heater Problem

I cann't get the pilot light lit. Took the heater out, took it apart and cleaned it. Put it back in an the pilot doesn't lit. I see a screw on the left side that has "pilot" need to it. Is this to adjust the pilot light?
Does any new heater fit in the heat space. By my measurements I am stuck with the old furnance and a cat heater would be to hot and a fire hazzard so close to the sofa/bed.
