Maybe fiberglass around the water bits? Can't say I saw any pink fiberglass at all on the tour. Stacks and stacks of the brown stuff.

Roof insulation.... At least what I have seen when changing speakers, light pucks, and adding a light in the bathroom..... Some gray-brownish stuff, certainly not pink.

My 2015 was made during May 2015 as one of the first after the change from 2014 to 2015.

My 2012 airstream had pink Fiberglass insulation and my early production June 2015 airstream has the brown insulation , I was at the factory in late March and they were installing the new brown insulation in the airstreams.
I will start a new thread on this !

Absolutely!

We've done a lot of upgrades and if we bought a new one, we'd have to do most of it again.

Insulation—sounds like cellulose. It comes in something like pellets and I thought it was usually white, not brown. They also make fiberglass pellets that look about the same. Works fine in a house (though polyurethane spray would be far better), but in a moving, shaking object, will it settle at the bottom of the walls? OK for a roof if prevented from sliding down the walls. I doubt the walls are 4"—that would reduce inside space by 4" and require rethinking the interiors.

Insulation answered elsewhere is Eco-Batt. EcoBatt - Insulation bonded with nature.

So they are batts like fiberglass, but made of sand primarily, not wood. Isn't fiberglass also made of sand?—glass is made from sand, isn't it. They do appear to be a lot better environmentally.

The problem with batts is sealing them at all the edges and not over compacting them around pipes, wires and other stuff in the walls. Any air that gets around the edges or where there are holes for wires, etc., significantly reduces the R value. In the past, Airstream started new hires with insulating—thus the least experienced workers with probably no experience with insulating did the job and it is likely they did not do it well. When they had inhaled enough fiberglass to cause lung problems, then they were promoted. Whether they still give the least experienced guys this job, I don't know.

Trying to figure out if the ducted air is a deal maker/breaker for me. I have found a barely used 2014 model that I can get from a private party for a really great price, in contrast I have been haggling with several dealers for the best rate I can on a 2015. The best deal on that is about 10K more the the barely used model. I don't like being hot in summer but have always just dealt with the noise as a given with my rooftop unit. Is the ducted air 10,000 dollars better?

The 2014 is such a good price I could possibly use it for a season and sell it and still break even.

Buy the 2014 and go to the mountains of Colorado where it will be cool.

I will check my 2015, but brown sounds like a product John's Mansville and others produced years ago called Mineral Wool. Good insulator, good sound deadening product and does not move as much as the Owens Corning Pink, which in my opinion would have a tendency to shift and possible slide down the side walls of the trailers. Not sure why they don't use foam, I am thinking it could be blown in, let try, tried anyway one needed with a box cutter and then interior panels installed.

Never sold foam, but did sell all types of insulation way back when and it's still the same today as in the sixties.

Used 2014 vs new 2015

The 2015 models are about $4,000 more than the 2014. So, the difference is only about $6,000. I would think another $3,000 - $5,000 off the used 2014 would be more in the "good deal" category.

Thinking about trading in our 2014 International 27ft. FB. For ducted air. Ours AC cools fine, but sounds like my diesel tow vehicle😁. I just may take the plunge.

Trading only to get ducted a/c is your choice. However, I am certain there is a way to quiet the current a/c for far less money. It would reduce headroom by about an inch, but should cost very little if one is a DYI type.

There are a couple more options and features that may push people to the 2015 models. They have the See Level monitor system, which is a vast improvement over the Micropulse. There is also the option of the power awning, though that can be installed by the dealer on an older model. The factory 16 inch tire/wheel option is also good, though again it can be done either DIY or by the dealer on an older model. The newest of the new, this year so far, is the directional vents for the ducted air. You can direct the air flow toward or away from you, and even turn off a vent. Those vents can be ordered to replace the "open" ones on the earlier 2015 models.

I completely agree. We love our new 2015. The ducted air makes a very noticeable "quiet" difference. The added roof depth helps keep the trailer cooler overall in direct sun. Coming back to a hot trailer we run both zones then after just a short time turn zone 2 off. The new monitors actually work which they did not on our new 2012.
