We have a 1964
Safari with an original International MGF 1525 20,000 BTU furnace. The pilot light lights even before the red pilot button is pushed in, and when the thermostst call for heat, the pilot light goes out and the burner does not light. I know I can not get a replacement part for this furnace which they stopped making in 1964
; however, I would like to know if the defective gas valve can be replaced with a universal gas valve. Can this be done, or should I just buy a new furnace? If a new one is in order, do you prefer Suburban of HydroFlame?
