A bit of info in case it helps anyone out. I got a quote from Custom ceramics "I've re-porcelainized a number of these camper/RV stove tops. All of the old lead based porcelain needs to be blasted off and new modern porcelain applied and fired. I get $225 for a top like this in white. This does not include return shipping" I can't find the other quote I got right now but was closer to $150 IIRC.

Hmmm... Wonder how that will compare with the powdercoating cost for the stove cover. The High-heat spray from Rustoleum seems to be less than twenty dollars, but I like the idea of getting it sand-blasted. I have no access so far to getting that done by itself.

I was hoping that for the powdercoating I could offer to wait until he had another grey/silver job to do and gang up with that. One thing I do have is time, and there are two or three powdercoating places here in Ottawa.

We have a place in Gainesville Fl that does powder coating. Have had a few items done by them for my job. I'll check with them and see what they charge. Planning on doing my stove top, cover, and grates.

I just got a quote from a place in Clearwater on Friday to sandblast and powder coat the stovetop and the stovetop cover. I wouldn't powder coat the stove top, but for both it was $214. I thought it was high but really sounds like it may be an average price.

This thread had prodded me to take action on the burner grates on my original Princess stove. They are in bad shape. I got a quote of $35 per grate to remove all the old porcelain and rust, and return all the porcelain to original condition. A bit spendy for an optional repair but likely to be a long term improvement.

Based on the work I've had done in Gainesville, that sounds about right. And, after reading the thread more thoroughly, I wouldn't powder coat the stove top or grates. I thought it would hold up to heat. I guess not, huh?

-Red, still learning...

The fella that quoted me said only the stove top IF I never used a pot larger than the grate so that the heat stayed directly over the eye or it would scorch the powder coat. Needless to say, after that I got the drill and wire brush attachment and worked an hour on 1/4 of the cover myself. I didn't get it smooth enough to spray myself but am going back at it again with another attachment soon. Click image for larger version

I used an air die grinder with the scotchbrite attachment. Higher speed, less abrasive. Does a pretty nice job of cleaning them up, but the rust came back. You can also get different "grit" of the scotchbrite wheels at Harbor Freight for a very reasonable price. I've used them extensively in the refurb...

-Red, better work through cheap Chinese tools...

Look what I did tonight. Wire brush, grinder and high temp paint. Take that Mr. $200 Powdercoat Man!! Yes, I'm proud.

I think it only took all of about 2 hours total. I didn't get the black grates done yet, but hoping to tomorrow. If I can do it, Red can do it with a grinder in one hand and a glass of peach brownie infused bourbon in the other. Try it...

But then I'd have to set down my Corona... Dilemma!
