Regulator on an aftermarket drop-in??

I have pulled my magic chef stove/oven to replace with a Wedgewood drop in 3 burner and convo microwave. The old M.C. had no regulator but the new one does?? Does this just mean that the new top runs at a lower pressure than the old one? (this is my assumption).
