Refinishing Minuet Cooktop

The cooktop (stove top) in our 1977 Minuet was originally stainless steel. Over the years the finish had become worn and also had some surface rust. I considered various remedies. The treatment I decided upon was to repaint with a heat resistant enamel like paint. The product I used was called "Dupli-Color" Engine Enamel. The product is normally used for engine paint after a rebuild. Colors available at our local Auto Zone were anything from Gloss Black, Gloss White, Aluminum and many others. For better or worse, we have decided to stay true with the seventies colors in our trailer so our cooktop is now orange which matches the counter tops nicely.

Total cost for the project was $5.89.

I sanded the cooktop w sand paper, finishing w 660 grit. Then wipe it down w laquer thinner and lastly, three coats of the paint.

Bravo to both of you. The price is definitely right! Now don't forget to follow up with the "durability report". Use and abuse that stove surface and let us know how well it holds up to heat and scuffing.
Thanks.

Hi Kenny, Just wondering how your painted stovetop held up over the years?
