Range hood fan not working

Hello all, I've been full timing in my 1971 31' excella 500. The coach is all original (except for the new a/c) and everything works....... Except for the hood fan. Any ideas on where I could start troubleshooting it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Nate

Two basic rules of troubleshooting. Pick one:

1 - Start with the most likely problem first, because you'll spend less time if the most likely problem IS the problem.

2 - Start with the easiest-to-check things first, and work up to the more difficult things, because why go to more effort than you have to?

Those two rules sometimes go together, sometimes not. In this case, they probably do. Start with the fuse (if the fan is 12vDC) or the circuit breaker (if the fan is 120vAC). Not only the most likely place to start, but also the easiest.

Thanks protagonist, I'm not sure if it's 12 volt or 120 but I checked the ac breaker panel and all is on. I'm not sure where the twelve volt fuses are though.

Your exhaust fan is 12 volt unless some previous owner has made unusual changes. In the early '70s the fuses were often part of the Univolt converter/charger, but later on the big/fancy models like the Excellas had a fuse or breaker panel that was separate, often concealed behind the back of the gaucho.

Your trailer is a '71 Excella? I don't think I'd ever heard of one earlier than '73.

Yes sir, I just looked at the title to double check but it is a 71. It has no grey water tank also which I was told started in 72-73.
I'll look behind the gaucho, sounds like a great place to start.

Once you find power to your fan, you might want to look at ddrucker's post# 397 in the "mods under $100 " thread. Replacing that noisy vent fan with a whisper quiet computer fan has been By far the best mod we've done. Wife thanks ddruker and I daily...
