Oven installation suggestions?

We have an 01 30 S/O Classic that came with the Maytag cooktop and the convection oven / microwave. My wife would love to have a regular oven again in addition to the microwave. Has anyone installed the factory option oven in place of these three drawers? Im sure the gas line is accessable but what about the woodwork? I would have to remove all the drawer supports etc. Has anyone had any experience with this conversion? What model range would you suggest? Obviously the cooktop comes out and maybe it will become a bit clearer with that out of the way.. not sure.

Thanks Vinnie

My experience is with much older Airstreams but the message is the same. My 1983 AS motorhome came with a microwave and a cooktop. Fortunately, it seems that the standard countertop cutouts are the same dimensions, and the complete stove hangs from the countertop. You can download the manuals from Suburban, Atwood, Magic Chef and there are a lot of these stoves new on ebay etc.

Hey guys,

I still havent tackled this issue but after our rally in October I will pull out the stove top and begin the exchange. Here is another idea I had but since been talked out of it. I might just install the full oven with the built in stove top and install a good microwave in place of the convection oven.

Thanks Vinnie

Finally getting around to this oven project. I have decided on the Magic Chef 22" as the measurements are really close. The oven sells for around $450.00 at camping world. The physical dimensions that I have currently (if I dont remove that rear panel) is 20 1/2" wide by 21" high by 18 3/4" deep. I know the oven needs more depth so I guess that I will have to remove that rear panel. Im also wondering if its fully supported by the sides as it slides in place or will I need to build a base for it to sit on too. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am just getting ready to put the exact same oven in my trailer. Lord knows I can't do it myself, so my repair guy is coming Monday to take measurements and I will ask him your questions too.

Dljosephson is correct. It seems the entire oven hangs from the countertop just like the cooktop did. Page 8 of this document shows the locations and overview. I guess the rear panel still needs to come out.

Carol, I would love to hear how the installation goes. Thanks..

If it were me (and my wife and I are thinking about the same mod), I think I would slide a panel in for a base. It would help to separate the oven from the bottom panel space as well as isolate the furnace from any cooktop/oven drips.

We have had 7 AS over the past 30 years and have never used any of the ovens once. We make it on the grill or we don't eat.

I just completed this mod in reverse, swapped out the stove & oven for a stovetop & convection oven below. The stove & oven set up in our '06 pretty much just hung as one unit off the counter top, secured laterally into the counter top at the sides of the stove. There was a bottom shelf in that space however that separated the stove area from the drawers below.

Just like your household cabinets, most everything is standard sized. It wasn't all that difficult, but I do have some carpentry experience.

My only other suggestions would be to take advantage of having that space open and be sure that the seams around the wheel well are sealed up properly and add some insulation back there. I wrapped the pex in foam cell etc.

Good Luck !

Hi, that's pretty scarey; Six pages of warnings, two of instructions, and one that does not apply. And the rest is all Hong Kong to me!!!! Just put a new, sharp blade in your saws-all and go for it. Use the 27 page instruction sheet for starting the camp fire at Casini Ranch or Jackson Rancheria.

So, Carol, does this mean you don't need the oven parts in the picture that I sent to you? I would go with the new oven too.
Neil.

Make sure the oven has proper clearances and that it has adequate ventilation.

Fresh Air,

I am going over to the trailer tomorrow to check your photo against what I have in my oven first, but after thinking it over, I am pretty sure I want to go with the new oven. I already spent one third of the cost of a new oven trying out the fix the parts game. Thank you for sending the photo though, I'll let you know for sure tomorrow.

Carol
