Oven frustration

Those grommets were just the beginning...

In general I think I could complain extensively about choices airstream makes about interior equipment. Today's gripe is the Amana stove/oven.

I can light the stove top from the clicker...why not the oven? Anyway, a barely used stove/oven is having various failures only a short while into full timing. The piezo clicker is failing, grommets have been replaced multiple times, I simply have no trust in the temperature of the oven. So I'm leaning towards an upgrade.

Problem is, how do I figure out quality of rv sized stoves? Dont want to spend just to spend, but want something any reasonable cook would enjoy using, and that will stand up to the rigors of full time living.

Second problem, how are rv stoves measured? I see 17", 21" and 22", mine has all three of those dimensions (roughly).

Suggestions?

Stove response

I have an Amana oven and find it to work very well. I do not full time; however, I use the oven on every trip several times. If I may suggest, consider using a bic flame wand instead of the clicking starter. You are correct on the pain it is to light the oven. I added an oven thermometer and it makes a huge difference. Perhaps my opinion is biased as the Amana is the only gas oven/stove I use but it works better than the house electric range to me. I had to replace my knob on the starter. It seems that RV appliances in general are designed cheaply in spite of being expensive comparatively.

Depending on what you use your oven for, consider a Panasonic flash oven. They are really great. They are similar to a toaster oven but more capable. I got one to supplement the Amana and use it for the biscuits, cookies, toast and other frozen stuff. Why? It is small, flash ovens require no preheating AND cooks a bit faster.

The top burners on your stove are not thermostat controlled. Therefore do not require a standing pilot. When the oven gets to temp the main burner shuts down but the pilot stays lit. Don't trust the numbers on the oven control, just buy an oven thermometer and hang it on the wire shelf in the oven.
