My microwave install 27FBSE

Just finished installing a small microwave in our 27FBSE.

As you can see from the pix it's above the stove. I decided to "cut out" the door.

Not a bad job considering.

What do you think?

TB - On FB trailers there is a 120 outlet on the wall behind the lower kitchen cabinet. I can use a mirror and trouble light to eyeball mine. Did wheel interested ask about this once? I know cosmotini has a standard microwave installed in the pantry pullout that is characteristically wider on his 28' FB Int'l. I'll bet gowyn is going sideways behind the pantry with the cord and down to that outlet.

Thanks, Bob...I see...that's interesting...I was wondering because the only 120 outlet near the galley area of our '06 19' Bambi is above the street side dinette seat...

I just checked the Bambi to make sure I hadn't missed an outlet under the sink or in the closet...nope. We have a gas oven and no microwave...we carry a small microwave with us, but have wondered where to put it inside...I guess for us the best place is above the frig (it's a shorter frig) where the TV is mounted to the wall...that is, if we ever replace the TV with a free-standing one. Not much available room in a Bambi. I love creative solutions to these kinds of things!

there's a 120v outlet to the right of the stove. I just drilled a hole through the bottom of the cabinet and ran the cord down.

We had a Bambi before this one, it had an outlet BEHIND the oven. On the Bambi we had the factory convection micro but on this one we didn't bother.

I've also installed a small hot water heater (on demand tap) by the sink. For it I took the 120v from the outlet behind our gas oven. Just ran a short extension cord to the sink and voila!

On your Bambi if you stick you head in behind the sink you may be able to see the 120v outlet behind your oven.

Oh good...for a minute I thought you were going to tell me to stick my head in the oven!

I went out and looked again just now...armed with a flashlight and a mirror...I couldn't see an outlet, which is not so say that it's not there...it's difficult to get a good look... There's a plumbing vent pipe in the back corner the under-sink area where it meets the small space behind the oven, so we'd have to pull the over in order to get back there... I did see the venting tube that goes from the furnace (which is below the sink area) to the holding tank area...so I learned something today in any case!

I am interested in the hot water on demand. Which type did you go with? We just started looking, we have had problems with our hot water heater. Trying to decide to install or try to convert a Coleman version so that we could use it out of the camper, also. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Do the electric ones pull too much power? Wondering if this can be run with AC going or if that is even an issue.

I just went down to Home Depot and picked up a small one. Tapped into the hot water line (could use cold too) under the sink, ran a short extension cord from behind the oven to plug it in and voila.

I only think it's 700watts so no big draw.

We are having the same question re: microwave. We are looking at a 2005 28WB and there is no microwave. We were surprised as I thought they all had them. We were at a loss as to where to try to put one in and no one had any good ideas. The wall to the left is the refrigerator in our unit and allows no options in that direction. Then as I was looking over the forums I saw your solution. Did you do the work yourself, is that an added shelf under the microwave for support and is that just storage to the right side? I don't know if we have an available power source, but I can have the seller check it out. Any added info will be helpful. What model, size and wattage did you select?

Yes I did the work myself. Wasn't too hard.

Yes that is an added shelf, what I did is went to Home Depot and picked up a 12" shelf (deep), cut it to length and then secured it to the base of the cabinet. All four feet of the micro sit on that shelf. I then used some small 90 degree angle brackets to secure the micro to the wall and shelf. I drilled small holes in the micro in the corners where it is strongest and far away from any internal components.

Yes there is still storage to the right. Big enough for a two slice toaster. When I was preparing the cabinet I removed the trim piece from inside the cabinet and used it again as trim with some cuts. Hard to describe but the trim piece instead of now just running along the front of the cabinet now runs along the front, up to the shelf I added and then it runs back to the wall of the trailer so there is no chance of stuff falling under or behind the micro.

The micro is just a generic 700 watt thing, nothing special, just the smallest one I could find. Good enough for popcorn and to warm up a plate of food.

Someone on here had Airstream build the a similar setup for a full sized micro, very nice but I'm sure it cost a few bucks.

The hardest part was cutting the door to fit around the micro, and that was only hard because it was scary. Curved door, power tools and my impatience...hehe

worst that could happen would be I'd need to buy a new door.

As to the power supply, there should be an outlet in the kitchen area, mine was down and to the right of the cabinet so I opted to drill a hole through the bottom of the cabinet and fed the cord through.
