Magic Chef Stove top flame starter doesn't work

Any one know how to fix the flame starter on a Magic Chef stove top for a 2001 30' Excella?

Turning the knob on the right makes a very mild snap sound, but it does not ignite the flame on the stove.

We have been using the good old flame starters we use outside to start our camp fire, but was hoping there was a fix for the stove.
