Light the pilot light with the oven set to off. Then, watching the pilot with the door open, see if there is a second, larger, pilot light that comes on. If that comes on and the oven does not light in a minute or so there is probably something wrong with the thermocouple or the gas valve itself.

This is the sequence: Little pilot light > larger pilot light which heats thermocouple > thermocouple power turns on gas valve for the main burner, which then lights. Thermostat controls the temp by turning on and off the main burner as long as the thermocouple says "the big pilot light is operating". It seems like a long way around just to make the oven light, but each step is safety related.

Could also need a good cleaning to unclog everything if it has been sitting unused for that long.

Pilot comes on but does not get larger as it should.

Try lighting the pilot - turning the oven up to a minimum of 500 degrees - wait at least 60 seconds and see if it lights.

Use a propane torch to heat the thermal couple when the bigger pilot light should have done it. If the main valve gas valve opens and lights then do it a couple times more. It could be the thermal couple might a little weak and you can buy another one cheap. If it still does not come on the thermal couple electrical might be loose. Buy a new one anyway and give it another try. If that fails, you need a new main gas valve which is not cheap.
