Our stove top also was a rust magnet, I sanded it off and put rust inhibitor on it but rust spots still appeared, and it was pitted also so finally we just replaced it with a new Magic Chef (from Colaw's RV in Missouri) top in a cream color that coincedentally happens to match the Argosy. It fits perfectly and looks great for $30. Unfortunately we don't have the fold top cover.
