It's a Premier Stove and Oven...

We made another craigslist purchase this weekend. A local ad for some 1964 Airstream parts including a stove (he had a water heater but we didn't see any other parts...) We went and looked at it, and while the color is a bit strange, it didn't really put us off. The oven is in amazingly clean condition. I don't think it can ever have been used. I wouldn't even say the top has been used much. We're going to see if we can get some new knobs and see how well the front plate cleans up. That and the back vent are the only things with corrosion on it.

The name plate is missing off the front. When we opened it up it says Premier Stove Company, Belleville, Illinois - just across the river from us.

Does anyone know if Airstream use these at one time? I tried to find it on their website with their vintage files, but could only find references to a stove with 3 or 4 burners. Now, I'm just guessing here, but I don't think this is original to the 1964 Airstream it is said to have come out of. I've done quite a bit of searching and can't find a stove by Premier on the forums.

If anyone has a Premier Stove, I'd love to see a photo of it!

From what I remember, the stoves were Tappan, Amana, and Magic Chef. I don't remember any Premier stoves in mid 1960's and newer trailers. That color looks more like late 1960's to late 1970's.

Tina,

Our 63 Safari had a 4 burner Tappan with a look-in oven. Similar but no cigar.

DW thinks like Frank....."looks like the early 70's to me".

Funny...I can't remember the.....

Color

Yes - the color is definitely odd - it's not quite avacado, but I can't place it either. It's like that new neon greenish-yellow... like the highway workers wear - just toned down a bit .

We think it's late 60's early 70's too. The knobs, if original, definitely are from that time period.

I had a waist high oven in a house that was constructed in 1969 that was that shade of avocado.
I've seen 1970's Airstreams with that shade of green for the oven and sink (shudder).

Argosy used a range in a shade of green very similar to that in their coaches with the "Spring Green" interior color scheme. I believe this interior color scheme was available all of the way through 1979, but I don't know if the range color was continued throughout the period as I know that the stock range in my '78 Minuet is a brushed stainless steel finish.
