Display Panel on Microwave - Convection Oven
The display panel on my Sharp Microwave/Convection Oven is unreadable. Has anyone replaced the display panel on their oven? Is this a DIY job?
The oven still works, we just have to use the owners manual and follow the cooking instructions in the manual. Oh but what a pain.

That sure sounds hard to put up with! I'll bump this thread. What do you think of running it by a small appliance repair shop and seeing if it's even possible?

Try leaving the trailer plugged in to shore power for several days. You may find that the panel corrects itself.

Actually we offer a nationwide service, repairing these units for only $39.95 in most cases. We serve hundreds of RV owners, dealers, homeowners and others each year.
Our proprietary modifications and fixes are designed to correct and prevent this trouble, which also occurs often in also newly purchased replacement controllers which do not have our fixes.
You save a lot over the cost of a new control unit, get a more robust unit, and we offer a one year guarantee.
We're at MicrowaveDisplay.com and we're happy to help.

Sharp has had a problem with them. I know lots of airstreamers that have the same thing happen to them . I would take up MicroWaveSvc on there offer . $40.00 seams like a good deal to fix a good microwave.

Thanks for a solution. $40 sounds real hard to beat.

Just a reminder to people browsing this thread "after the fact", many prices will be subject to change. When the "price of gas" thread was started, gas was hovering around $2 a gallon, currently is is flirting with $4.
So, if you ask the above people for a price to repair, and it's a lot more than the above quote, remember to factor time and inflation to it, to avoid sticker shock.

Received my display panel back from MicrowaveDisplay.com today. Reinstalled the display and it works wonderfully. Cooked my dinner using the microwave and it worked. Cost was the advertised $39.95. There was about a two week turn around time. The display was packed in bubble wrap that was surrounded with styroform. I had a positive experience with this company. Thanks for a great job.

Cheers Vinnie

Yep! That's the critter. It probably started failing several years ago but, as I mentioned in an earlier reply herein, it would correct itself after shore power was restored for an hour or so.

I just bought this trailer and have been working on it in my garage. I hadnt tried the convection oven until yesterday and it didnt have any power. I slid it out from its cabinent and found that it was only partially plugged in. I was all excited that it would be an easy fix and then this. Oh well. Im sure when i get it back it will work perfect. Till then i put the covection oven in our kitchen of our home and my wife wants to practice cooking with it before i reinstall it in the trailer. Funny thing is that once you remove the shroud that mounts it its just a free standing oven that looks like it could be sold for your house. Im sure others did just that and bought something new. But it still looks new and im sure it has alot of life still in it.
Glad i found this post so it could be repaired.
Thanks Vinnie

I reinstalled the repaired panel last Saturday and it works perfectly! One of the things I'm doing now, to prolong the life of the display, is that I switch the breaker for the Microwave off when the trailer is stored. Before, I would periodically plug the trailer in during the winter to charge the batteries and the microwave display would try to come on with the temperature below zero. From what I've read, that's not good for the display. It's best to have the trailer up to a reasonable interior temperature before firing it up.
